Bad Dad

So my grand plans for blogging baby on a consistent basis have obviously not worked out--I'm not sure where all my free time went, but there seems to be precious little of it, and certainly not enough to put together long, thoughtful blog entries.

I tend be a pretty terrible correspondent; I put off writing personal email and letters "until I have time to write a really good one." My friends tend to remind me that they'd rather get quick notes than not hear from me at all for six months at a stretch. This tendancy seems to carry over to blogging pretty easily. So, in the interest of not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, here's a quick update:

  • Alexander's growing and thriving, although he's in a new fussy phase that is challenging. Most likely this fussy phase will pass, and be replaced with another new fussy phase.
  • Julia (ahem) Dr. Kaufman successfully defended her dissertation. Well. Very well. If it sounds like I'm bragging, it's 'cause I am.
  • Spring has come to Western PA! I hardly noticed the weather the past few weeks--winter just seemed to disappear. Guess I was distracted.
  • The beautiful and talented Dr. Kaufman offers a much better summary of the past few weeks on her web site. Check it out.

For all his fans and admirers, I've added a bunch of pics of Alexander to our photo gallery: photos.sixteenredheadedbabies.com.

    Home

The doctors signed off on Julia and Alexander yesterday, so I was able to bring them both home. They're both doing well, although Jul seems incapable of following the doctor's instructions and simply relaxing--I may have to tie her to the couch.

More pics as requested. I can't quite believe that they let us take him home.

    D-Day + 2

Julia says that she feels "something" going on--this could be the day.

    D-Day

Statistically, only a very small percentage of women actually deliver their child on their projected "Due Date," especially the first time around. In fact, given the actual numbers, we'd probably be much better off if we were given a "due week" rather than a specific day.

Despite knowing all of that, you spend 9 months thinking about that date, and so February 10--today--has been a time I've been pretty focused on. Which makes it feel pretty surreal to be sitting here at work, knowing that Julie's a few blocks away, also at work. All of which is to say that the bun has not yet made its appearance. And it doesn't seem particularly anxious to get the process of appearing started.
